When your rider calls for smooth, musical dynamic control rather than a clampy VCA squeeze, the ART PRO VLA II answers with an opto-electronic detection circuit driven by Vactrols instead of a conventional VCA. A 12AT7 tube sits in the gain stage, giving vocals, mix buses, and broadcast feeds a naturally rounded top end while a transformerless signal path keeps noise and distortion out of the way.
Each of the two channels offers independently variable Threshold, Ratio, and Output controls, with attack sweepable from 0.25ms to 50ms and release from 150ms to 3 seconds — enough range to tame a hot kick channel or gently glue a full mix. Switch into Enhanced Link Mode for stereo work or mastering duties: channel 1 becomes master output level while channel 2 turns into a balance control between the two sides, keeping stereo image intact under compression.
Metering is easy to read at FOH or in a dim booth, with LED-backlit VU meters showing average and peak-hold levels alongside ten-segment LED gain reduction display, so you can see exactly how hard the compressor is working without guessing. A +4dBu/-10dBu switch lets you match the PRO VLA II to professional or consumer-level gear, and active balanced XLR plus 1/4-inch I/O keeps it flexible for patching into any rig. A toroidal transformer helps shield the audio path from mechanical and electrical hum, useful in busy racks.
