Description
When a rider calls for a direct box that can handle anything an artist throws at it, the Radial JDV Mk5 earns its spot on the patch list. This two-channel active DI runs on 100% discrete Class-A circuitry with a feed-forward design that skips negative feedback entirely, keeping harmonic and phase distortion out of the signal path so instruments hit the console sounding like themselves.
Each channel is built to solve a different stage problem. Input 1 handles magnetic pickups and active instruments while also accepting 48V phantom-powered mics for instrument-mounted capsules. Input 2 brings a switchable 10 meg-ohm setting for piezo transducers, so acoustic players get proper loading instead of a thin, brittle tone. Run both inputs at once, blend them from the front panel, and lock them together with the built-in Radial Phazer to eliminate phase cancellation between a mic and pickup source — a huge win for acoustic guitar and upright bass setups on a busy stage.
Drag control lets techs dial in the exact impedance an instrument’s pickup wants, and the extra-high 30-volt internal rails deliver headroom that keeps dynamic players from clipping unexpectedly. Variable high-pass filters tame boomy resonance per channel, LED meters give a quick visual level check under stage lighting, and Jensen transformer-isolated outputs kill ground-loop hum before it becomes a soundcheck problem. A +4dB line-level output feeds recording rigs directly.
- 100% discrete Class-A active direct box
- Feed-forward design, no negative feedback
- Drag control load correction for natural tone
- 30-volt rails for extended headroom
- Built-in Phazer, variable HPF, Jensen-isolated outputs
Switch channels from the front panel or add the optional JR-2 remote for hands-free A/B switching and muting between instruments mid-set.
