Description
The Radial J48 is built for engineers who need one less variable on the input list. It’s a 48V phantom-powered active direct box designed to pass your instrument’s true character through to the desk instead of coloring it, with a linear frequency response spanning 20Hz to well above 40kHz. A digital switching power supply lifts the internal rail voltage for extra headroom, keeping distortion low and giving you an even-order harmonic profile that holds up against DIs costing far more.
- -15dB pad for hot signals off active basses or keys
- 180° polarity reverse to help manage stage feedback
- Ground lift to knock out hum and buzz from ground loops
- Merge function to fold left/right sources to mono without phase cancellation
- 80Hz high-pass filter to cut resonant boom from acoustic instruments and free up extra headroom
On the road, the J48’s book-end chassis shields the switches and jacks from load-in abuse, while internal I-beam construction keeps stress off the PC board so solder joints stay put show after show. A full-bottom no-slip pad keeps it planted on stage while isolating it electrically and mechanically from the deck.
It’s a DI that shows up on riders and in touring racks for a reason — used by players like Tommy Emmanuel, engineers like Joe Chiccarelli, and bands like Fleetwood Mac who need a direct box that simply disappears into the signal chain. For house engineers and system techs building a reliable DI inventory, the J48 is a proven, low-fuss standard.
