Description
Backline DIs are often the weakest link in a signal chain, but the Radial J48 was built to eliminate that concern. Running exclusively on 48V phantom power, it uses a purpose-designed switching supply to generate internal rail voltage well beyond what standard phantom power normally allows — letting it handle peak transients up to 9 volts without choking on hot input signals. That extra headroom translates directly to lower harmonic distortion and roughly half the inter-modulation distortion typical of conventional active DIs, so bass, keys, and acoustic instruments stay articulate even when pushed hard.
On the front panel you get the practical tools engineers actually reach for: a -15dB pad for hot sources, 180-degree polarity reverse for phase alignment, an 80Hz high-pass filter to tame stage rumble, ground lift for hum-free grounding, and a merge function that sums two inputs to mono for quick stereo-to-mono routing. Inside, Radial’s welded I-beam chassis construction gives the J48 the structural integrity to survive daily load-in/load-out abuse without drifting internals or intermittent connections — the kind of reliability riders and touring techs expect.
For larger inventories, Radial’s J-Rack shelf lets sound companies rack-mount up to eight J48 or JDI units in just 2RU, with flexible input/output-facing configurations. That means the same DI stock can move between stand-alone stage use and rack-mounted convenience depending on the gig, simplifying inventory management for busy production houses.
