Description
The Heil PR 40 blurs the line between stage-ready dynamic mic and studio condenser. Its 28Hz–18kHz frequency response is unusually wide for a dynamic capsule, letting it capture low-end warmth and top-end clarity that most dynamics can’t touch — while still handling the SPL of a screaming guitar cab or a broadcast host leaning in hard.
Heil’s decades of experience tuning cardioid patterns for communications gear shows up here as tight, consistent off-axis rejection front to back, so bleed from monitors, drum kits, or adjacent talent stays out of the signal. A neodymium-iron-boron magnet structure drives a large low-mass aluminum diaphragm for strong output and fast transient response, and a dual-mesh screen with an internal breath-blast filter keeps pops and sibilance under control even when performers work the grille closely.
Inside, the capsule sits in a shock-decoupled mount within a steel body, and a hum-bucking coil keeps the PR 40 quiet around lighting rigs, monitor wedges, and other noisy stage gear — a real plus for FOH engineers building rigs where clean gain-before-feedback matters. The champagne matte anodized finish and 1 lb steel construction make it a rider-friendly workhorse for touring vocal mic lists, podcast booths, and broadcast booths alike.
