Description
Front-of-house engineers and touring vocalists alike ask for the Heil PR 22 because it solves two problems at once: it takes a beating in SPL without breaking up, and it stays quiet when a performer grips the body hard mid-song. This unit is a gently used demo model, fully functional and ready for the next gig or session.
Heil built the PR 22 around a large 1-1/8″ low-mass diaphragm paired with a neodymium-iron-boron magnet structure, giving it a wide frequency response and a linear cardioid pattern with up to 40dB of rear rejection. That off-axis rejection matters on crowded stages and multi-mic setups — spill from monitors and adjacent instruments stays out of the capsule, so mix engineers get a cleaner channel to work with.
Handling noise is a common complaint with ball-style dynamics, which typically band-stop below 125Hz to mask rumble — at the cost of vocal warmth. Heil’s ISO BAND suspension system (patent pending), using Sorbothane rubber, tackles the problem differently, preserving a full 50Hz–18kHz response while keeping low-frequency handling noise in check.
SPL handling is rated to nearly 150dB, meaning the PR 22 shrugs off screaming vocalists, cranked guitar cabs, and aggressive snare work without distortion. It’s equally at home as a primary vocal mic or as an instrument mic for snare and guitar cabinet duty, making it a flexible addition to any mic locker.
