Description
When a rig has to fit in the back of a hatchback but still needs to fill a room, the Electro-Voice ZXA1-90 earns its keep. This active 2-way box pairs the EV8L 8″ low-frequency driver with the DH2005 titanium-diaphragm compression driver, biamplified by an onboard 800W amp module with steep crossover slopes and woofer excursion limiting to keep things clean at the top of its output range—up to 123dB max SPL.
The compression driver loads into a rotatable 90° x 50° waveguide, so you can flip the coverage pattern between wide horizontal spread for front-of-house duty and tighter vertical throw when the box is pressed into service as a floor monitor. Speaking of monitor work, the enclosure has a built-in monitor angle molded right in, no extra wedge needed.
Signal routing is straightforward: XLR mic and line inputs get you into the amp, and an XLR line output lets you daisy-chain additional ZXA1-90s or hand off to a subwoofer. A switchable high-pass filter cleans up the low end when you’re running a sub underneath, protecting the 8″ woofer from content it doesn’t need to reproduce.
The cabinet itself is injection-molded high-impact polystyrene, keeping total weight under 20 lb. while staying tough enough for van life. A recessed handle and integrated pole mount make it a one-trip carry, and four #8-32 suspension points on the bottom open the door to permanent installs.
