Description
The Boss SL-20 Slicer turns a steady guitar, bass, keyboard, or vocal signal into a rhythmic, percussive groove machine — instantly. Rather than just adding color to a tone, it gates and pulses the signal against 50 onboard Slice patterns, each with adjustable attack and duration, so you can lock a part into a tight, danceable rhythm on the fly.
For stage use, tempo control is straightforward: tap it in via the onboard footswitch, dial it manually, or slave the whole unit to an external MIDI clock so it stays glued to a click, DAW, or drummer without drift. A 40-second Loop Record function lets you capture a sliced pattern and keep playing over it, useful for building layered parts live or sketching ideas quickly in the studio.
Beyond straight slicing, the Harmonic Slice mode generates percussive melodic patterns rather than simple rhythmic chops, giving guitarists, keyboard players, and electronic performers a genuinely different creative texture to work with. Multiple output modes — including a 3D Panning mode — spread the sliced effect across a stereo field, which can translate into a wider, more engaging spatial effect through a full PA rig.
Hands-on control comes from dedicated knobs for effect level, direct level, attack, duty, and tempo, plus bank and pattern selectors — no menu diving required between songs. An expression pedal input (pedal sold separately) opens up real-time control over attack, duration, and mix levels for players who want to shape the effect dynamically during a set.
