Description
First introduced back in the 1960s, the M 88 TG remains a fixture on rider sheets and in studio mic lockers for one simple reason: it captures low-frequency detail other dynamics smear. Its low-mass diaphragm reacts fast enough to keep up with a kick drum’s transient, delivering that punchy ‘thump’ straight off the capsule — no gate or EQ gymnastics required.
That same speed and low-end fidelity make it just as effective on bass cabinets, bass drums, and any source rich in harmonics that need to stay defined rather than muddy. The hypercardioid pattern tightens rejection off-axis, which pays off on loud stages where gain-before-feedback matters, and the built-in hum-buck coil keeps lighting rigs and other electrical noise out of the signal.
Beyerdynamic built the M 88 TG for the long haul — rugged housing, high SPL tolerance, and a frequency response engineered with a gentle presence lift so sources cut through a mix without sounding harsh. Whether it’s parked in front of a bass amp at soundcheck or tracking vocals in the booth, it holds its character night after night.
