Description
The Telefunken M80 was engineered as a direct answer to the mid-forward, one-note character of the usual go-to stage dynamic. Rather than settle for a workhorse that just survives high SPL, TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik built the M80 to actually sound open and detailed at those levels, thanks to a low-mass capsule with an unusually thin membrane that tracks vocal nuance the way a good condenser would.
Behind the grille sits a 25mm dynamic moving-coil capsule paired with a super-cardioid pattern, giving front-of-house engineers tight rejection for feedback-prone monitor wedges and busy stages without choking off the top end. Frequency response runs a broad 30Hz to 18kHz, and the head/capsule geometry is designed specifically to tame proximity effect, so vocalists get clarity and control rather than boomy low end when they work the mic closely. The result is a handheld that stays authoritative and airy under pressure, without tipping into the upper-midrange honk that plagues lesser dynamics.
An American-made, custom-wound impedance-matching transformer sits at the heart of the signal path, working with the proprietary capsule to deliver the tonal character that’s made the M80 a fast favorite among touring engineers and studio vocalists alike.
