Description
The M80 Chrome started as a one-off favor: ZZ Top asked TELEFUNKEN’s Custom Shop for a chrome-plated version of their M80, and the result was striking enough that it became a permanent finish. Cee Lo Green and Snoop Dogg followed with requests of their own, cementing the M80 Chrome as the flagship of TELEFUNKEN’s Custom Shop line — same acclaimed circuit and capsule, dressed for the stage.
Under the plating is the same super-cardioid dynamic that built the M80’s reputation: a 25mm low-mass capsule with an unusually thin membrane, wired through a custom-wound impedance-matching transformer. That combination gives it a wider frequency range (30Hz–18kHz) and higher SPL headroom than typical stage dynamics, so it can track a whisper-to-scream vocal performance with a nuance most engineers associate with condensers rather than handheld dynamics.
Sound reinforcement techs will appreciate the reduced proximity effect designed into the head and capsule assembly — vocalists can work the mic close without the bass building up into mud, and the super-cardioid pattern keeps monitor wedges and side-fill from triggering feedback or that harsh upper-mid honk. It’s an easy add to a vocal-mic rider for touring rigs or house systems that need one mic to cover lead vocal, horn, or drum duties across stage and studio.
Each M80 Chrome ships with a mic clip, leather carrying bag, and packing tube for safe transport between gigs.
