Description
Piezo pickups deliver plenty of stage volume, but they’re notorious for a brittle, glassy edge that fights front-of-house engineers. The Radial StageBug SB-4 addresses that directly with a 5 meg ohm input impedance — far higher than a typical DI — which smooths out the spiky peaks responsible for that “squawk” and opens up a fuller, more natural frequency response. The result is amplified tone that stays true to how the instrument actually sounds unplugged.
Inside, an active buffer circuit balances the signal for long, loss-free cable runs of up to 100 meters, holding onto linearity and low distortion the whole way to the board. Two outputs give you flexibility on stage: a standard XLR feed for the PA and a dedicated aux out for a personal stage amp or monitor rig.
Feedback control is built in rather than bolted on. A high-pass filter strips out excess low end that can set an instrument’s body resonating, while a 180° polarity reverse switch lets you shift phase relationships between the PA and room acoustics — a quick fix for stubborn hot spots and ringing frequencies during soundcheck.
Small enough to live in an instrument case pocket and powered entirely by 48V phantom power, the SB-4 is one less battery to worry about before a set.
