The Fin from Heil Sound pairs stage-ready looks with a genuinely musical dynamic capsule. Under the double chrome-plated (‘showchrome’) steel body sits a large 1 1/18″ aluminum low-mass voice coil assembly, the same architecture found in the Heil PR 20, delivering a natural, open sound across a 60 Hz – 18 kHz range with the signature Heil 4 kHz presence bump that keeps vocals and instruments cutting through a mix without sounding harsh.
A tight, linear cardioid pattern helps reject spill and monitor bleed on crowded stages, while the internal blue molded foam windscreen tames handling and breath noise right at the grille. The capsule rides in a specially tooled shock mount to further isolate it from stand and floor rumble – a real plus for touring and house rigs where vibration control matters.
Then there’s the showpiece: four blue LEDs mounted inside the mic. Run The Fin into a mixing console’s 3-pin balanced XLR input with +48V phantom power engaged, and the lights come alive, turning the mic into a visual element on stage as well as a sonic one.
