Description
The ND44 is Electro-Voice’s answer to the everyday headaches of instrument miking: slow setups, drifting clips, and mics that pick up hum from nearby gear. Its tight cardioid pattern isolates each drum or cabinet in a dense stage plot, keeping bleed down when your kit or backline is packed close to monitors, amps, and other mics.
A humbucking coil keeps line hum out of the signal path, so you can run it right next to speaker cabinets or power racks without worrying about induced noise creeping into the mix. The Memraflex grille is built to take a beating — tight mesh construction shrugs off knocks from drumsticks and gear handling on tour or during load-in.
Positioning is handled by a low-profile, dual-pivot head that adjusts to awkward angles most mics can’t reach, paired with the DRC-2 drum rim clamp. The clamp’s soft, compliant grip and finger-loop design let you lock the mic onto a rim quickly and hold it steady through the loudest sets, cutting down on between-song fussing.
Sonically, the ND44 is voiced for a full, rounded tone on drums and guitar cabinets, with a transient response quick enough to capture the snap of a snare hit or the attack of a picked riff. It’s part of EV’s ND Series, built around a large-diaphragm capsule that pushes the original N/Dym design further for engineers who need dependable, road-ready instrument coverage night after night.
